Last week Braidbar Primary 4 class had an absolutely fantastic time planting our 5 small trees with the expert help our local park ranger, Katy!
Before planting, we did an audit of our school grounds, using what we had learned about the trees to decide where was best to plant them. We are lucky enough to have a large patch of grass which benefits from both sun and shade and that needed a little brightening up. It was a natural choice for our new trees.
We spent a sunny afternoon planting with our expert guide, Katy, to keep us right along the way and have since ensured that the trees are watered and looked after. Thankfully, our rainy Scottish weather has given us a little hand with this :)!
We’ve also spent time in class using our skimming and scanning skills to research and read sources of information which tell us all about the benefits of trees on our health, on wildlife and on our environment. We plan on sharing this information with the rest of our school after our Easter break.
In addition to this, we also have plans to have a naming ceremony for our amazing new trees. We recently voted for new school values which are Kindness, Creativity and Ambition so three of our trees will be named in their honour. The other two names will decided and voted for by our school community, so we’ll keep you updated.
