As part of our plan to make our school grounds more nature friendly and increase biodiversity, we have planned to work on a number of different zones. We have a Pollinator Zone where we have planted wildflower seeds, a Rewilding Zone which we intend to leave wild and to add a small pond and bird feeders and a Hedgerow Zone.
We are creating our Hedgerow Zone by planting hedgerow whips, donated by the Tree Council, between existing bushes. We planted them in January and they are thriving!
We spent an afternoon planting with the support of our local Woodland and Rewilding Officer and some volunteer Tree Wardens. Our Eco Crew took the lead and some children from Year 3 helped too.
The Eco Crew delivered an assembly during National Hedgerow Week to tell the whole school how important the hedgerow will be to our local wildlife and the species it will support.
