The EYFS children were investigating minibeasts in the playground and forest areas to see which they preferred to live in. The children used minibeast hunting sheets in pairs and magnifying glasses. In the forest area we conducted a tree shake by laying a white sheet on the forest floor and gently shaking the tree to investigate which minibeast were living there. We spotted some spiders and two small beetles. We carefully removed the sheet and allowed the minibeasts to go back to their habitat. The children found out that far more minibeasts lived in the forest areas and concluded that trees were very important habitats.
