At The Tree Council, we work with amazing young people in schools across the UK, encouraging them to take action to tackle the climate and nature crises, and to stand up as a Force For Nature. We know just how important trees are, fundamentally giving us the oxygen we need to live while also enhancing our lives, making us feel calmer when things are tough.
After last year’s outstanding response, we once again partnered with The Week Junior Science+Nature to run our exciting writing competition for National Tree Week 2022. We received inspiring entries this year, that really demonstrate the amazing connection that young people have with nature. See below the tree-mendous winners, special commendations and short-listed entries!

The winners!
We had an amazing selection of fantastic entries this year, which made it incredibly hard to select finalists and winners. Our judging panel had a tough job but they selected imaginative and original entries that captured the wonder of trees and nature and highlighted the deep connections that the writers had to the natural world around them. Whilst only one winner could be selected for each category, the judges did also award some special commendations to other outstanding pieces.
We hope you enjoy reading the winning entries and our Story in Nature e-book that is brimming with wonderful poems, stories and non-fiction written by all our talented finalists.
